Why Do Dogs Develop Hot Spots

The skin of the dog is the biggest organ inside the body, yet it is having quite a limited number of methods in which it responds to the trauma. The dog hot spots or the severe wet dermatitis are the regions on the skin of the dog predominantly caused by means of itching of the dog’s, the biting and also via scratching and can even appear all on a sudden like a surprise. These regions can turn quite large and also capable of appearing almost anywhere and everywhere on the dogs. It’s often observed that during spring time whenever the temperatures are a lot hotter and the humidity is on the higher side. The dogs having the dense undercoat, like as the Labradors, the golden retrievers and last but not the least the Rottweiler’s are more prone to forming these regions both on their face and the neck. Seldom, areas are identified at the tail’s base which is most likely owing to the fleas as the fleas prefer congregating in places as such. Some of the dogs are so very allergic to the fleas that one mere bite from a flea is adequate enough to cause itching for the dogs. Any sort of injury can also begin the process that the dog then exacerbates via fixed form of chewing and also licking that consequently forms a vicious cycle and eventually causes hot spot on dogs to spread.

The dog usually has bacteria’s which reside on their skin and as long as dog’s skin is stout, it’s a rare thing that the bacteria might cause any sort issues. But, whenever something happens like a bite from the fleabite, or a mere cut or some allergies, the dog begins licking, biting, chewing and scratching that disrupts the skin’s protective layer.

So, these are the predominant reasons behind occurrence of the hot spot on dogs.
